Off The Rack 02:58
Off The Rack Craig Moreau I can't help but think about the ones who've gone before me As I rush to take my place among the line Hard work and sacrifice just to build ourselves a little life That fades and changes colours with the times It's not the first time that I've found myself here waiting Just to burn another day to start again Look too hard between the lines, miss the words and all the rhymes See your life as spaces on the page Chorus- Don't waste another minute close your eyes and jump right in it Take a chance and don't forget to breathe It's all or nothing baby I can't keep on thinking maybe If I wait then life will come to me So if there ever comes a time when you find yourself still wondering no need to look and see who's got your back Put your faith in your two hands trust your feet and understand Life will never fit you off the rack Chorus- Don't waste another minute close your eyes and jump right in it Take a chance and don't forget to breathe It's all or nothing baby I can't keep on thinking maybe If I wait then life will come to me Tag- It's all or nothing baby I can't keep on thinking maybe If I wait then life will come to me

The Best Of Me Craig Moreau Maybe I'll break the fast/ make it last/ for week or two Buy a beer/ and a bourbon back/ get a new tattoo Take a road trip on my own Stop when something feels like home I haven't felt this gone/ for so long/ been scaring me Paralyzed/ in one point in time/ lost all belief Ponder why we're really here Then I'll buy another beer Chorus I got tired of being lonely I guess she's just tired of me That's one thing that we agree on We've both seen the best of me There's a hole to fill/ that I never will/ I know it now I made my choice/ set my course/ all to well What's a body have to do To fill his soul and stomach too Chorus I got tired of being lonely I guess she's just tired of me That's one thing that we agree on We've both seen the best of me I guess I'll pass/ on another glass/ and go back home Learn my place/ stand and face/ another storm Where I reach and never touch And not enough is just too much Chorus I got tired of being lonely I guess she's just tired of me That's one thing that we agree on We've both seen the best of me And we're both lost inside the silence That trails behind some broken dream There's no next time riding higher We've both seen the best of me

Another Fence to Mend Craig Moreau I've travelled many empty roads I've made a friend or two Often took a lover To pretend that she was you I see the years have treated you With a very gentle touch I haven't been so lucky But I'm sure you've guessed as much I took the muse for granted Thought she was only mine It only now occurred to me I was wasting all her time But that's another story For yet another day I'd rather use what time we have To sing what I can't say Chorus And there never was a pot of gold At the rainbows end Just another empty hole to fill And another fence to mend I guess I have known happiness But I don't live in it too long I've never felt deserving It somehow fit me wrong If you did forgive me There's no need for me to know It would only make it harder To carry on this show I don't mean to be dishonest In the me that I show you It's just that it has been so long Since I've told myself the truth Chorus And there never was a pot of gold At the rainbows end Just another empty hole to fill And another fence to mend I think I learned It early on Then forgotten how it felt To let you take that part of me That was meant for something else I really hope it served you well Stayed honest, new and clean I've been searching out replacements Changing hats and chasing dreams I guess that's all the time we've got I better let you go You just need to tell me how I really need to know Chorus And there never was a pot of gold At the rainbows end Just another empty hole to fill And another fence to mend And there never was a pot of gold At the rainbows end Just another empty hole to fill And another fence to mend

L & N Don’t Stop Here Anymore Jean Ritchie When I was a curly headed baby My daddy sat me down on his knee He said, "son, go to school and get your letters, Don't you be a dusty coal miner, boy, like me." I was born and raised at the mouth of hazard hollow The coal cars rolled and rumbled past my door But now they stand in a rusty row all empty Because the l & n don't stop here anymore I used to think my daddy was a black man With script enough to buy the company store But now he goes to town with empty pockets And his face is white as a February snow I was born and raised at the mouth of hazard hollow The coal cars rolled and rumbled past my door But now they stand in a rusty row all empty Because the l & n don't stop here anymore I never thought I'd learn to love the coal dust I never thought I'd pray to hear that whistle roar Oh, god, I wish the grass would turn to money And those green backs would fill my pockets once more I was born and raised at the mouth of hazard hollow The coal cars rolled and rumbled past my door But now they stand in a rusty row all empty Because the l & n don't stop here anymore Last night I dreamed I went down to the office To get my pay like a had done before But them ol' kudzu vines were coverin' the door And there were leaves and grass growin' right up through the floor I was born and raised at the mouth of hazard hollow The coal cars rolled and rumbled past my door But now they stand in a rusty row all empty Because the l & n don't stop here anymore

A Different Kind Of Train Song Craig Moreau All alone he sits there staring At the hotel neon sign He thinks about he things he's losing Still he'll calm his troubled mind He's tried so many times to throw it Just can't seem to get it right The pain and anger just keeps growing Until he's forced to take that ride This is a different kind of train song Known to only those who ride That train is coming down that skinny steel rail Destination out of your mind It's in the faces of the children Flying now on angels’ wings The dark fire burning in the bloodstream As the conductor loudly sings All aboard to those who've chosen Being still and going fast All those haunted by the feeling Of no future but the past This is a different kind of train song Known to only those who ride That train is coming down that skinny steel rail Destination out of your mind Ain't no tracks to where it's going Just the ones it leaves behind At your final destination Nowhere farther down the line This is a different kind of train song Known to only those who ride That train is coming down that skinny steel rail Destination out of your mind

The Muse 03:48
The Muse Craig Moreau When I look back I'm a little uneasy Made a little bit dizzy By how I feel It was such a whirlwind Her and me back then Full blown passion And it seemed so real Now that I'm older And life seems slower I can barely find her In the back of my mind But I'll keep trying You know that I'm dying To keep on flying Back through time Chorus: And it's more than the sum of its parts Less of the mind than the heart It's Years filled with joy and with pain And it's everything that made me Who I am So I'll keep on writing Songs about searching Do a little lying To myself Maybe just one time I'll write the right line A lyrical fine wine For someone else Chorus: And it's more than the sum of its parts Less of the mind than the heart It's Years filled with joy and with pain And it's everything that made me Who I am

The Old Man and The Fiver Craig Moreau Saw the old man on the street living rough and down and out So I stop and take a moment to see what this old man's about I’m not searching for a reason I'm just looking in and reaching out I take a fiver from my pocket and I place it in his hand He says I promise I won’t drink it I said brother it don't matter where it l ands Be it food or wine or whisky take your comfort where you can Chorus: ‘Cause we all got our demons failed ambitions guilty feelings For things that we did and we ain't done And time aint never healin' broken hearts just numbs the feelings That we felt way back when when we were young That fiver in your hand is to help me understand where I went wrong I listen to him talk of failing health and fading mind How he drank away a fortune wasted love and wasted time How regrets are far from reasons to change And forgiveness is sublime Chorus: ‘Cause we all got our demons failed ambitions guilty feelings For things that we did and we ain't done And time aint never healin' broken hearts just numbs the feelings That we felt way back when when we were young That fiver in your hand is to help me understand where I went wrong

Shadows Left Behind Craig Moreau I used to take my comfort from the road With every mile I travel now the new's been growing old Believing that the future lies With ever changing exit signs Pretending you're the river not the boat I’ve had my illusions of control Holding fast to nothing for fear of losing all Speak out loud to no one Except the setting sun Darkness frees the memories you stole Chorus: It's not much but it's all mine The more I lose the more I find To stubborn to let go I’ve yet to say goodbye Till there's nothing more than shadows left behind I’m getting harder to convince That all this running will help me clear that final fence Not ready to give up on The questions of the coming dawn And release the final chapter to the wind Chorus: It's not much but it's all mine The more I lose the more I find To stubborn to [let go I’ve yet to say goodbye Till there's nothing more than shadows left behind Nothing more than shadows left behind

Thirsty Soul 03:24
Thirsty Soul Craig Moreau I was born with a very thirsty soul I was born with a very thirsty soul In my quest to quench it, I damn near lost it all I was born with a very thirsty soul I've done everything I know to ease my mind I done everything I know to ease my mind Women, lies and liquor, and the dreadful selfish crime I've done everything I know to ease my mind I was born with a very thirsty soul I was born with a very thirsty soul In my quest to quench it, I damn near lost it all I was born with a very thirsty soul I tell all of my secrets to my dog I tell all of my secrets to my dog She don’t seem to judge me and I know that she won't talk So I tell all of my secrets to my dog All my life's been waiting on a rhyme Spent all my life just waiting on a rhyme The one that gets me noticed, so I can pay my bills on time I’ve spent all my life just waiting on a rhyme I was born with a very thirsty soul I was born with a very thirsty soul In my quest to quench it, I damn near lost it all I was born with a very thirsty soul Just looking for salvation in a song I keep looking for salvation in a song Every time I find it, well I sing the damn thing wrong But I Keep looking for salvation in a song I was born with a very thirsty soul I was born with a very thirsty soul In my quest to quench it, I damn near lost it all I was born with a very thirsty soul

Missing You In Texas Craig Moreau I'm just missing you in Texas in the rain I never thought I'd live to see the day That all these insecurities Would come flooding through the gate And I'd be missing you in Texas in the rain I haven't seen the sunshine in a while Not to say the sun could make me smile I'm just holding on with both hands Every inch feels like a mile No I haven't seen the sunshine in a while Chorus Do you know where we might go If I take this road before me Do you think that we could make it work I would trade most anything Just to hold you in the morning But This dream just keeps dragging me away I hope that I don't ever let you down Make you stop believing in me now You need to know I'm grateful That you stuck around I just hope that I don't ever let you down Chorus Do you know where we might go If I take this road before me Do you think that we could make it work I would trade most anything Just to hold you in the morning But This dream just keeps dragging me away

about

I started working on this record soon after the release of The Daredevil Kid in 2014. I had written a couple of new songs for my band shows and some more introspective songs while I was on the road by myself. While I was in Austin, Texas, for John Conquests not SXSW in 2015, during a visit with Mark Hallman at The Congress House, I shared some of the new songs I had been working on, which led to a session a couple of days later. Those songs sat for a while as I put things in place to finish the record. I really love playing with The Craig Moreau Band and wanted to showcase the fine work of Ben Tagseth, Orlando Agostino Curt Doherty and Scott Dionne, so I scheduled some time with Leeroy Stagger at The Rebeltone Ranch Studio in Lethbridge, Alberta and recorded a few ‘live off the floor’, adding Micheal Ayotte on the keys.
Back to Austin to cut a few more with the help of Kim Deschamps on Steel and Dobro, Barbara Nesbitt on Harmony Vocals, Andre Moran adding some great guitar work and the incredible Mark Hallman doing everything else, we ended up with some new sounds and a true Americana record!
